Battle Creek Live! Summer Presented by Consumers Credit Union

Battle Creek Live! announces the summer entertainment lineup for Downtown Battle Creek and will carry on the tradition of the Post Band, Vibe @ 5, Movies in the Park, Food Truck Fridays and the Battle Creek Farmers Market will be presented by Consumers Credit Union.

Consumers Credit Union, located in Battle Creek at 6081 B. Dr. offers a full line of financial services and has been serving West Michigan since 1951.

Detailed information is available at BattleCreekLive.com. Battle Creek Live! is an initiative to bring live entertainment and events to downtown Battle Creek with a goal of contributing economic impact to downtown and to the community's quality of life.

Summer Program

The Battle Creek Farmers Market is back beginning May 1 in Festival Market Square. The Market will feature your favorite fruits, vegetables, and baked goods from each Wednesday (9 am - 2 pm) and Friday (3pm - 7pm) through October 30.

The Post Band, presented by Post Consumer Brands will be returning for its 96th season. The concert band will perform six times this summer in Festival Market Square, date announcements coming soon, beginning at 7:00 p.m. each night. The Post Band will feature a different theme each week and is free to attend.


CHRISTOPHER MOMCILOVICH:
Christopher Momcilovich is excited to become the new Post Band director with Laura Bandlow for the 2019 season! Chris currently serves as the high school band and choir director of Battle Creek Central High School. On top of teaching during the day, Chris also directs the Bearcat Marching Band and the Jazz Band at BCCHS. Before coming to Battle Creek, Chris, his wife Kari, and their three children moved from just outside of Marquette, MI. Chris comes with several years of teaching experience throughout the state and with a degree from Western Michigan University where he majored in music education in the trombone studio under Dr. Steve Wolfinbarger. When not teaching music, Chris likes to spend his time camping and fishing with his family as well as go to Binder Park Zoo! Chris is looking forward to meeting everyone and having a wonderful season!



LAURA BANDLOW:
Laura Bandlow is the director of bands for the Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools. Her duties include teaching the fifth through eighth grade bands at St. Joseph Elementary and Middle Schools and directing the St. Philip Marching Tigers and the St. Philip Catholic Central Concert Band. Mrs. Bandlow started marching band at St. Philip in 2012 after a fifty-year absence of band from the high school. This fall will mark her twelfth year with BCACS.

In addition to her duties at BCACS, Laura is also the director of the Kellogg Community College Concert Band where she has been an adjunct faculty member since 2005. Her duties at KCC also include Professor of clarinet and saxophone.

Laura holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Bachelor of Music Education from Western Michigan University. During her time at WMU she was a member of the WMU Symphonic Band, the Bronco Marching Band and Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional music fraternity for women. At WMU, Laura also studied conducting with Richard Suddendorf and Dr. Scott Boerma and clarinet with Brad Wong.

Laura is a life-long resident of Battle Creek and the surrounding area, having grown up in Augusta. She was a member of the Post Band under the direction of Ed Zentera for several years (1995 until his retirement) and she performed with the Post Band under the direction of Brian Bucec when time permitted (not as much as she would have liked). Laura has four daughters, Amanda and Cacey Hirleman and Marissa and Mallory Bandlow. All of her daughters play instruments and her husband Bill Bandlow is a trombonist. Laura and her husband Bill play with the Cereal City Concert Band when time allows, and they currently reside in the Lakeview area.

Vibe @ 5 begins on July 7 at Friendship Park. The concert series will be all tributes to popular artists. All concerts begin a 5:00 p.m. The performance schedule is as follows:

July 19th - Teddy Petty & the Refuges (Tom Petty Tribute)

July 26th - Cameleon (Tribute to Rock & Roll)

August 2nd - Tony's Field's Trio (Motown Tribute)

August 9th - Night Moves (Bob Seger Tribute)

Battle Creek Parks and Recreation will again host Movies in the Park at Mill Race Park. 

The family friendly movies will begin at dusk; 8 pm.

Food Truck Fridays in Festival Market Square is back!

 

On May 17, June 7, July 19, August 9, September 13, and October 18 a variety of food!
